About Paul Gees
Paul Gees (born 1949, Aalst) is a leading Belgian sculptor whose work has, since the 1970s, revolved around the exploration of tension, balance, and proportion. From the early 1980s onwards, he has built a remarkably consistent and recognisable body of work, where steel, wood, and stone are brought together in fragile yet deliberate compositions. Often described as a contemporary alchemist, Gees reveals the hidden energy of matter through precise and poetic arrangements.
His practice unfolds at the intersection of architecture and nature, exploring fragile balances with quiet intensity. His work is represented in leading collections, including MoMA Brussels, M HKA Antwerp, and the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, and can be encountered both in museums and in the public realm across Belgium.
