Pol Spilliaert, Works from the Artist's Residence
Maison Moderniste recently acquired two works by Pol Spilliaert, directly from the artist's former residence in Belgium, the house where he lived and worked. One of the works was found in the garden, where it had remained for many years. The other was kept inside the house. We collected both pieces ourselves, on site. The house is a well-preserved modernist residence, with a clear and functional layout. The presence of the works within this context feels logical rather than staged. They belong to the place they came from.
The work that had been outdoors shows visible traces of time and exposure. The other remains in a more intact condition. Both, however, retain a strong and direct presence. For Maison Moderniste, this type of provenance is essential. Not just where a piece comes from, but how it has been kept and used over time. The two works are now part of the Maison Moderniste collection.
