Pol Spilliaert, Works from the Artist's Residence

Maison Moderniste recently acquired two sculptures by Pol Spilliaert from his former residence and studio in Belgium, shortly after his passing. Set in quiet green surroundings in Sint-Kruis, Bruges, Spilliaert's residence was a remarkable white modernist house designed by architect Rik Scherpereel in 1968. Its low horizontal lines and strong connection to the landscape gave immediate context to the works.

One of the sculptures stood in the garden, among several other works. It was a true sculpture garden, with pieces in dialogue with the house and the surrounding landscape. What stayed with us most was the place itself. The architecture, the nature, and the art made the visit deeply inspiring. Some of the things we love most, all in one place.
