About Juliaan Lampens
Juliaan Lampens (1926–2019) was a Belgian architect associated with post-war Brutalism, known for his uncompromising use of exposed concrete. Following Expo 58, he developed a radical approach to living, based on open plans and a reduction of the house to its essential elements.
His buildings, including the Van Wassenhove House in Deurle and the chapel of Kerselare, are conceived as continuous spaces where structure, light, and material define the interior. Furniture was often designed as part of the architecture, resulting in rare pieces that follow the same direct use of material and construction.
