Charles Vandenhove, Stool for the Lucien Brull University Residence

Out of stock

These rare stools were designed by Belgian architect Charles Vandenhove for the Lucien Brull University Residence in Liège. The arched cut-outs create a rhythmic play of opening and structure, giving the stool the architectural presence we absolutely love. Originally conceived as the companion to his study desk, the stool stands equally well on its own, as a seating element, a sculptural accent, or as part of a set.

The piece has been carefully restored and is a rare opportunity to acquire an authentic piece by one of Belgium's most important post-war architects.

About Charles Vandenhove

Charles Vandenhove (1927–2019) was a Belgian architect known for combining modernist clarity with a strong connection to art. His work includes housing, public buildings, and cultural projects across Belgium and abroad. He worked closely with artists such as Daniel Buren and Sol LeWitt, integrating artworks into his architecture. Alongside his buildings, he created a small number of sculptural interventions, including works for the Middelheimpark in Antwerp.

Together with his wife, he built a significant collection of post-war art, including works by Sol LeWitt, Cy Twombly, and Pierre Soulages, later largely donated to Ghent University. He also designed a limited number of furniture pieces, rare objects that reflect the same attention to proportion, material, and space.
