Poul Kjaerholm, PK9 Tulip Dining Chair by EKC

Out of stock

A rare original PK9 'Tulip' dining chair, designed by Poul Kjaerholm and produced by E. Kold Christensen in the early 1960s. This first-series chair features a sculptural three-legged base made of matt chrome-plated spring steel, supporting molded fiberglass seats with a beautiful light cognac leather upholstery. The unique shape was inspired by a sand imprint of Kjaerholm's wife's sitting posture on the beach.

The chair is marked with the EKC logo and remains in very nice vintage condition. The leather is in fantastic shape, soft and inviting, while the frame wears a subtle patina with pride.

About Poul Kjaerholm

Poul Kjærholm (1929–1980) was a Danish designer who moved away from traditional Scandinavian wood furniture by working primarily with steel. He combined steel with materials such as leather, cane, and marble, using each for its specific qualities.

His furniture is built from clear structures, where joints, proportions, and material contrasts are carefully resolved. He worked closely with manufacturer Ejvind Kold Christensen, who produced many of his designs.
