Jules Wabbes, Modular Corner Lounge Set for Mobilier Universel

Rare modular corner lounge set by Jules Wabbes, manufactured by Mobilier Universel in the 1960s. This complete Model 800 ensemble consists of a left and right two-seater sofa element. The frame is executed in solid ebonised oak and raised on brass clogs. The removable cushions are upholstered in their original mouse grey leather.

Very good original condition and beautiful patina throughout, with the original leather still soft to the touch. Complete original first-edition combinations of this kind are exceptionally rare.

About Jules Wabbes

Jules Wabbes (1919–1974) was a Belgian designer and interior architect known for his precise approach to material and construction. His early work in antiques and furniture restoration shaped the way he approached materials and making. His work is marked by a clear rejection of short-lived design trends, particularly the widespread use of plastics during the 1960s.

Instead, he focused on durable, high-quality materials, with a particular emphasis on wood. Through direct sourcing, often via the port of Antwerp, he ensured consistent material standards, combined with precise execution and attention to detail.
