Rogier Vandeweghe, Blue-Glazed Cylindrical Vase for Amphora

Blue-glazed cylindrical vase by Belgian ceramist Rogier Vandeweghe for Amphora, Sint-Andries-Bruges, Belgium, 1960s. Within Amphora, Vandeweghe developed a ceramic production balancing studio pottery and serial manufacture, where simple forms and carefully controlled glazes became central to the workshop's identity.

The vase is reduced to a straight cylindrical volume with a narrow opening, finished in a deep blue glaze with subtle variation in tone and texture. The darker glaze gathers around the rim and base. In excellent condition and marked underneath, a strong example of Belgian post-war ceramics from the 1960s.

About Rogier Vandeweghe

Rogier Vandeweghe (1923–2020) was a Belgian ceramicist known for his refined forms and distinctive glazes. After his early work at Perignem, he founded the Amphora studio in Bruges, where he developed a more autonomous and sculptural approach to ceramics.

His work ranges from functional pieces to elongated, almost architectural vessels, defined by balance, proportion, and a nuanced color palette. In 1964, he was awarded the Premio Faenza, becoming the first non-Italian to receive this distinction.
