Yves Rhayé, XL Biomorphic Terracotta Sculpture

Biomorphic terracotta sculpture by Belgian artist Yves Rhayé. Working between surrealism and organic abstraction, Rhayé developed a highly personal sculptural language in which human, vegetal and animal forms merge into unstable hybrid figures, often associated with the imaginative worlds of Salvador Dalí and Yves Tanguy.

Executed in terracotta with a richly textured surface and fluid anthropomorphic contours. Signed on the reverse. Preserved in very good condition, the sculpture reflects Rhayé's position within post-war Belgian sculpture and Belgian surrealist art. A unique work by a member of the International Academy of Ceramics.

About Yves Rhayé

Yves Rhayé (1936–1995) was a Belgian artist known for his sculptural work that blends human, animal, and plant forms into hybrid, often otherworldly figures. His pieces move between figuration and abstraction, with a strong focus on form and surface.

Trained at the Ghent Academy and later active at the Perignem workshop, he developed a distinctive language in ceramics and bronze, often finished with dark or gold-toned glazes. His work is defined by these biomorphic shapes and a tactile, almost organic presence.
