MAARTEN VAN SEVEREN, LC93B Lounge Chair for Top Mouton/Aiki

The LC93B Low Chair, designed by Maarten van Severen in 1993, features a gently curved beech plywood shell finished in natural oil lacquer, supported by a minimal aluminium frame. The first examples were handmade by Van Severen in his own atelier. From 1999, the model entered semi-industrial production with Belgian manufacturer Top Mouton, the historic furniture company later led by Nick Top and subsequently known as Aiki.

The LC93B is no longer in production, making existing examples increasingly sought after. This chair is preserved in top condition.

About Maarten Van Severen

Maarten Van Severen (1956–2005) was a Belgian designer and interior architect, known for his radical clarity of form and material. Working initially by hand, he developed furniture that balances archetypal simplicity with an exceptional level of precision.

His approach placed strong emphasis on the tactile and natural qualities of materials, often left untreated to reveal their origin and to evolve through use. Van Severen's work reflects a belief that objects gain meaning over time, shaped by the traces of everyday life.
