Maarten Van Severen, LC93B Low Chair for Top Mouton/Aiki

LC93B Low Chair designed by Belgian interior architect and designer Maarten Van Severen in Belgium in 1993 and produced by Top Mouton/Aiki, a collectible chair within minimalist Belgian design. The first examples were handmade in Van Severen's Ghent atelier before the model entered semi-industrial production from 1999 with Belgian manufacturer Top Mouton, later continued as Aiki.

The gently curved beech plywood shell in natural oil lacquer rests on a minimal aluminium frame. Reduced to a formed wooden shell and light metal support, the LC93B allows nothing beyond what the chair structurally needs. No longer in production and preserved in top condition.

About Maarten Van Severen

Maarten Van Severen (1956–2005) was a Belgian designer and interior architect, known for his radical clarity of form and material. Working initially by hand, he developed furniture that balances archetypal simplicity with an exceptional level of precision.

His approach placed strong emphasis on the tactile and natural qualities of materials, often left untreated to reveal their origin and to evolve through use. Van Severen's work reflects a belief that objects gain meaning over time, shaped by the traces of everyday life.
