Maarten Van Severen, LC95A Loop Chair by Atelier MVS

LC95A Low Chair by Belgian designer Maarten Van Severen, made in his Ghent atelier in 1995. Produced before his collaboration with industrial manufacturers, the chair belongs to the small group of experimental one-off pieces through which Van Severen developed his early furniture language directly in the workshop.

Constructed from a single folded aluminium sheet forming a low, flexible seat, the silhouette recalls Willy Guhl's 1954 Loop Chair while remaining unmistakably Van Severen in its reduction and material directness. Finished in blue with rubber supports underneath. Preserved in great original condition with minor scratches consistent with use. A rare piece within Belgian collectible design.

About Maarten Van Severen

Maarten Van Severen (1956–2005) was a Belgian designer and interior architect, known for his radical clarity of form and material. Working initially by hand, he developed furniture that balances archetypal simplicity with an exceptional level of precision.

His approach placed strong emphasis on the tactile and natural qualities of materials, often left untreated to reveal their origin and to evolve through use. Van Severen's work reflects a belief that objects gain meaning over time, shaped by the traces of everyday life.
